About the Symposium

Scope of the symposium

The SETAC Europe 25th LCA Symposium is a two and a half days focused topic meeting exploring “The Role of LCA in Raw Material Sustainability, Circularity and Criticality.”

The focus of this year’s symposium is on LCA case studies that evaluate and support changes within the actual model of trade, consumption and production towards a more sustainable and circular one regarding raw materials. The proposed sessions of the scientific programme cover the most important economic sectors and interest areas such as industry, building, mobility, energy, bioeconomy and waste/wastewater, and include sustainability, circularity and criticality as the main dimensions for the analysis.

Meeting Format

This year, the SETAC Europe 25th LCA Symposium will be held virtually from 12–14 October 2022. The meeting programme promises to feature many compelling live presentations, expert keynote speakers from both industry and research institutions, poster break-out sessions, engaging discussions and seminar sessions.

Renowned LCA experts will moderate the seminar sessions, opening up an interactive and deep discussion on current LCA issues. The seminars include the topics “the role of LCA in material sustainability”, “the role of LCA in the circular economy” and “prospective LCA”. By attending the seminars, participants have the opportunity to network, share their experiences and ask questions in a small and theme-focused group. They are mainly intended for PhD students currently working on one of the mentioned topics. However, all LCA researchers and practitioners are also invited to participate.

The live programme will be recorded and made available a week after the conference’s end. Registered attendees can (re)watch the recordings at their own time for up to three months after the meeting.

Online posters will be available on-demand (prior, during, and after the meeting) as pdf files on the virtual platform. Additionally, poster presenters can add an audio/video recording of 3 minutes or less explaining their research. Viewers can reach out, leaving messages in the Q&A boxes attached to each presentation or directly during the poster sessions. The poster sessions will be organized on Zoom, where each presenter has a break-out room for poster display and live Q&A.

Please check back frequently as we will post new information and updates about the programme soon.
